Archery Fitness History is Made in the Eighth Championship

Top Archer Athletes from the 2018 Self Defense Archery Fall Series Championship

Is it possible to have six teams competing over the course of several months and have a dead heat tie between two teams? Is it possible for a youth boy to perform a Robin Hood Feat in a Series Championship? Is it possible for a girl to come out of nowhere and win against veteran female archers plus have the third highest score among all competitors?

ABSOLUTELY, anything is possible in Alicia Weber’s Archery, Fitness, Sport League where students are trained to be positive thinkers too!

It all came down to the third and final event (the toughest event with 4 squares to hit clockwise followed by a hard to hit small bullseye worth 20 points). Coed Team Anime nailed it with a full 33 point lead on the second place Team Red Rubies. Their TOP Archer, Nathan, had a near perfect score in the archery with 60x points out of a possible 70 points.

Nathan easily secured first place overall with 163x points, but the All boys team known as Red Rubies were not ready to say “goodbye” to their chance at winning a fifth Team title. They pulled together in great camaraderie, grit, and determination and shot each arrow like it was their last chance to shoot. They worked so hard and garnered so many points that they were able to tie with Team Anime for a final score of 656x points. This is the first time in archery fitness history that 2 teams tied at such a long and drawn out 3-Part Series Championship!!

Two rookie teams kept building tremendous focus and momentum in Events #2 and #3 to bring their teams to the TOP. Team Curry Wolf placed second with 583 points. Their team was led by a bow hunter turned phenom archer, Amber, who scored 137 points. She was the first place girl and she had the third best score out of everyone. Team Couriers placed third with 571 points. Their team was led by Brandon who placed third for boys with 137 points.

The Junior Rubies consisted of the Leagues youngest competitor (a six year old girl). There is also a 7 year old. Some of these motivated competitors also take a Leadership course. They work on multiple skills, while they also compete in this championship. They finished 4th place with 522 points.

In fifth place was a new team known as Fit N Fighting Fortiter with a determined 7 year old girl and other young boys and girls. The 2018 Spring Series 2nd Place Champ, Anecya, led the team on the girl’s side, while new league boys (Andrew, Sean, Benny, and Payten) got their feet wet in the new sport. The team scored 307 points.

CENTRAL FLORIDA (oct 19-20, 2018)—-The weekend “warmup” was Friday evening with armwrestling and Halloween-themed fitness challenges. The highlight was 4 boys armwrestling World Record Weber in an effort to push both of her arms down. It was super-charged sets of training with long lengths of time and effort to attempt to push the world record holder down and then a fitness challenge to work on other muscle groups. “I loved the armwrestling. The whole event with the archery and shuffleboard was really fun and challenging and it was way better than my expectations,” stated Matteo, The League Hall of Famer and winningest athlete in the League. Matteo won the archery and shuffleboard events.

It was a very challenging, exciting, and surprising Pumpkin Shoot with 4 stations. It started with a sound effect relay event. Then, a 3-way pumpkin Aim Challenge event, Scarecrow challenge, and Escape the Cobweb challenge. It came down to the “Bonus Round” to claim the winner. All nine archers were just a few points from one another. Each archer picked their best station to garner the final points to become a breakaway winner. Matteo won with 16 points. A new archery student, Ashley, (who just learned archery this week) tied for second place with Raven (the only female to win 2 consecutive championships). They both scored 15 points. Matteo won the scarecrow as other top archers took home pumpkins.

The boys requested to play shuffleboard. The boys and their families stampeded over to Clermont Shuffleboard to continue the excitement. The girls have requested basketball and their special event is coming soon.

“I always love how Alicia challenges the kids with fitness and other activities. The shuffleboard is a new activity. I love the idea that we have all ages of people playing shuffleboard together. We have the kids, adults, and seniors competing together and you rarely see all the generations together in sports. I love this event,” said Matteo’s mom.

Everyone had a good time learning and laughing in the new, fun sport of shuffleboard. The Clermont Shuffleboard Champions guided everyone. There were 4 teams of two people. Matteo and his teammate won as they reached 75 points first (the goal in shuffleboard). It took only an hour for them to claim the victory.

Clermont, Florida’s Inaugural Tag Team Archery Competition A Thrilling Event for Youth

By: Weber Way To Wellness Reporter

The enthusiasm of the X-Shots drive to run and shoot archery combined with the idea their Coach, Alicia Weber, dreamed up became a reality in December for their last day of the fall archery fitness program. Weber competed in a 5k Beach Running race where she was chased by Zombies six times. She sprinted to keep them from tagging her and she was successful in escaping from them and winning the race (first place female) and the victory was her 106th overall career victory and the inspiration for her new game “Tag Team Archery.”

Inaugural Tag Team Archery

TagTeamArcheryCLERMONT, FL—Sundance Archery Range was packed with spectators and two teams Tall and Short (which included a tall male athlete, Yeriel, and two short females from the X-Shots) and Lego Arrows (2 males with one being Bryce the 2015 male varsity Ready Aim Go Archery Champion).

The teams competed on a rolling surface. They had 4 minutes to earn as many points as possible by running 100yds successfully without getting tagged by the other team and then racking up additional points by shooting 3 arrows at 25 yards for score. The competition proved to be adrenaline pumping, action-packed, intense, and challenging.

It gave the uber athletic and competitive X-shots the excitement and running they were craving. It also attracted two new archers to join their team. In fact, one new archer, Yeriel, made the final winning shots to help his team, Tall and Short, take the victory in the inaugural tag team archery. Yeriel and another new student, Jack, were given only one quick instruction on archery and they are already excelling in their new sport with flying colors.

Play-By-Play of the Inaugural Tag Team Archery Game

Round One After both teams played their first 4 minute rounds the Lego Arrows led with a score of 30-11. Bryce of the Lego Arrows had a great round of archery to extend the lead.

Round Two The determined new archer, Yeriel, from team Tall and Short was not going to focus on how far ahead the Lego Arrows were, but instead he focused on gaining ground with each arrow. He increased his team’s score to 32 points. Tall and Short now led 32-30.

Tag Team Archery WinRound Three The third and final round was reduced to 2 minutes. Each team had all their teammates run at the same time, while trying to escape from the opposite team closing in to tag like a huge octopus. The Lego Arrows came back and took the lead 35-32. However, team Tall and Short still had their final 2 minutes of game time, where all the final action took place. All three made it thru their run successfully, which put the score to a tie of 35-35. Since, Yeriel was first to complete the run, he was first to complete his final 3 shots of archery. The time showed 1 minute and 15 seconds remaining. Yeriel, with his adrenaline pumping as he felt the pressure, hit all three arrows on target and took home the win for his team with a final score of 54-35 just in the nick of time.

“We are thrilled. We want to do this again!” exclaimed all 5 competitors as they leaped in the air. Today was just a scrimmage, but an official match is in store for the future.
